Volunteer Spotlight: Celebrating Greg Burt, a Steward of San Damiano
At the heart of any successful community initiative is a dedicated group of volunteers — people who give their time, talents, and energy to causes they care deeply about. Today, we shine the spotlight on one such volunteer whose passion for San Damiano is both inspiring and deeply rooted in a love for the land and community – Greg Burt.

For Greg, volunteering at San Damiano is more than giving back—it’s a way to protect something truly special. Drawn in by the land’s beauty and potential, he felt compelled to help preserve it for others. “It’s all about San Damiano,” he said. “It’s a precious and beautiful resource, and we struggle to keep places like this. I felt that being a part of its present and future — doing something for our community — was worthwhile.”
What inspires him most is the chance to leave a legacy. “There aren’t many things in life that give to future generations—but this is one of them."
For Greg and his wife, San Damiano is a cherished part of their daily life. Whether biking, walking, enjoying lakefront sunsets, or snowshoeing the shoreline in winter, the property offers peace, beauty, and a connection to nature. “It’s a special place to us, as it is to many,” he said.

One of Greg’s most memorable volunteer moments was helping coordinate a large equipment delivery for events at San Damiano. With support from his employer, of 38 years, Brunsell Lumber & Millwork in Madison, he arranged the truck and unloading support for the stage, tents, and more. “It was very satisfying,” he said. “It was great to see the coordination and assistance come together.”
Greg plays in the band Lynda & The Zeros—with his wife as lead singer. You can catch them performing at the first San Damiano Biergarten this Thursday, June 21 at 6:00pm!

When he’s not working or making music, Greg enjoys fishing, golfing, and time at their northern Wisconsin getaway. A self-described “generalist,” he loves doing a bit of everything. “I like putzering about,” he said with a smile. “It detaches my mind. It’s amazing how I can get nothing done in quite a bit of time.”
Thank you, Greg, for your dedication, your stories, and your heart. Volunteers like you are the reason San Damiano will remain a place of beauty, reflection, and joy for generations to come.
